Voter Fraud and Logistics Issues Reported in Central African Republic Elections
President Faustin-Archange Touadéra has been re-elected for a third term in the Central African Republic. The second round of voting for legislative, regional, and partial elections took place on Sunday, April 26, 2026. Voters in Bangui and provincial towns participated in the runoff. Touadéra is currently awaiting final results before forming a new government in Bangui. Election officials in Bangui reported instances of voter fraud including individuals attempting to vote twice and the use of fraudulent voter cards. Logistical issues were noted in several polling stations, specifically the absence of forms required for voting by derogation. In Bombouti, located in the southeast of the country, the elections reportedly proceeded without major issues. Neighborhood leaders in the third arrondissement were deployed to encourage residents to participate in the regional elections.
