Nigerian Officials Seek Community Awareness Campaigns In South Africa
South African President Cyril Ramaphosa stated the government is acting to address illegal migration and employment practices. Frank Onyekele, President of the Association, noted that several Nigerian citizens have closed businesses and are willing to return home due to frustration. South Africa hosts one of Nigeria's largest diaspora populations, consisting of both documented and undocumented immigrants. The South African government is currently offering flights for the return of these citizens. The initiative involves working with the Nigerian High Commission in Johannesburg and the South African High Commission. Officials stated that while sanctions and arrests are desired, current progress has been limited. Meetings with community leaders from both nations are being organized, including virtual sessions.
