Regional Parliaments Elected In Scotland, Wales
Scotland will hold elections for its 129-seat regional assembly on May 7. The assembly resides in Edinburgh and is responsible for lawmaking and governance within Scotland. While the Scottish Parliament manages domestic issues, foreign policy and defense remain under the jurisdiction of the United Kingdom Parliament in London. The Scottish National Party (SNP) has been the largest party for several years and is expected to maintain its position in the opposition.
