Police Block May Day Protesters In Paris
Large-scale demonstrations took place in Paris for May Day, including a protest involving the La France Insoumise party. Approximately 158,000 people attended the event according to police, while the CGT union reported over 300,000 participants. The demonstration occurred at Place de la République following a speech by Jean-Luc Mélenchon. The event was described as a dispersed demonstration for the left. Clashes peaked in the afternoon as 6,000 students gathered on Place du Faubourg Saint-Antoine to begin a march. Police subsequently blocked the protesters at Saint-Germain-des-Prés.
