European Security Responsibility Shifts To Europeans
The American decision was expected, and Europeans must take greater responsibility for their own security. European governments have reached a consensus to take on more responsibility for their own security from the United States. European governments are increasingly concerned that the US is reducing its military presence in Germany. The cancellation of plans to deploy US long-range cruise missiles in Germany is a concern, though not a major shock as the plan originated from a previous US administration. The US military's actions in Iran have also depleted its combat missile inventory. European governments are particularly wary of the manner in which US troop reductions in Germany are being implemented, given the lack of prior consultation.
