Spanish Congress Rejects Rent Control Extension

developing Onda Cero Spain Madrid 11d11d Impact 7
The Spanish Congress has rejected a Royal Decree-Law that would have extended rental contracts by two years and limited rent increases to 2%. The decree-law was voted down this week. Hundreds of thousands of citizens are affected by the housing crisis. The Socialist Party voted against the measure. The decree-law had been signed in March, giving ample time for proposed amendments. Millions of people are affected by the uncertainty surrounding rent control measures. The vote against the extension was supported by PP, Vox, and Junts, with the PNV abstaining. The PNV had initially intended to vote in favor of the extension.
