May Day Rallies Disrupt Cities Across Europe and US
May Day rallies were held across Europe and the United States. These demonstrations disrupted normal activities in various urban centers. Participants in some rallies were reportedly protesting job losses and social cuts. Iranian officials are concerned that the economic crisis could spark new protests, with some economists predicting the crisis could last another three to six months. Large demonstrations, exceeding 100,000 participants, took place in Polish cities to mark the 125th anniversary of the May 3rd Constitution. Rallies focused on jobs and social cuts, with some banned in Iran. In Istanbul, Taksim Square was closed by authorities for the event. In Poland, May Day rallies disrupted cities. In Germany, labor protesters demanded job protection. Similar demonstrations were reported in Berlin and other European cities, as well as in US cities.
