Hong Kong Bans Public E-Cigarette Possession

Hong Kong will implement a ban on the possession of electronic cigarettes and alternative smoking products in public places starting April 30. Health Department Director Lam Man-kin stated the policy aims to protect citizen health. Authorities are preparing supporting measures to ensure the hospitality and tourism sectors continue to benefit from increased business. Hong Kong Department of Health Director Wong Man-kin announced a new policy to protect public health. New legislation in Hong Kong will prohibit the sale of all tobacco products. Director of Health Ronald Lamb stated that the law will not negatively impact the tourism industry. The government has launched awareness campaigns, including large-scale publicity and signage at airport entry points. Tobacco and Alcohol Control Office inspectors are distributing informational materials to tourists to ensure compliance with the new regulations. Convictions can also result in up to 6 months of imprisonment.
