French Minister Calls For UN Development Aid Reform
French Minister Barro stated on May 1 that the US-led international coalition for the Strait of Hormuz is not in competition with previous European escort proposals. Barro noted that France cannot currently determine if it will join the US-led alliance. The comments follow recent tensions regarding maritime security in the region. When asked if France intends to join the US-led coalition, Barro replied that it is currently impossible to determine. She said the need for better integration of the Global South into development processes. Künast advocated for a shift toward partnerships and cooperation on equal footing rather than dependency.
