Portuguese Union Calls For General Strike In June

Rui Lázaro, president of the pre-hospital emergency technicians union, expressed disagreement with the president of INEM regarding a plan to station medical helicopters in the interior. Lázaro stated that removing operational capacity during the night represents a step backward for emergency services. The union argues this move reverses decisions made by the country approximately twenty years ago. He stated that emergency and resuscitation vehicles arrive faster than helicopters in interior regions. The union head argued that the claim of helicopters being more efficient in the interior is false. The plan aims to minimize response times but faces opposition from the union regarding operational readiness. The CGTP union announced a general strike scheduled for June 3. Tiago Oliveira stated the union expects other unions to join the protest. Mário Morão noted that the union is waiting for conclusions from an upcoming meeting with the Minister of Labor.
