Louisiana Absentee Ballots Sent Amid Redistricting Lawsuits
Republicans are signaling intentions to redraw a Louisiana district, potentially putting Representative Cleo Fields at risk of losing his seat. The redistricting process follows a ruling issued on Wednesday. The move could result in the district becoming more Republican-leaning. Two additional lawsuits have been filed to prevent Louisiana from delaying U.S. House primary elections. A lawsuit regarding redistricting in Louisiana has created confusion as absentee voting is currently underway. More than 100,000 ballots have already been sent out to voters. Early voting is scheduled to begin tomorrow. If the lawsuit is successful, the printed ballots containing current slate of house races may not be counted. The immediate effects of the litigation involve the validity of printed ballots already in circulation.
