Madrid Early Childhood Educators Continue Indefinite Strike

Educators in the Embajadores district of Madrid have been on strike for three weeks. Protesters were reportedly expelled from a municipal plenary session last Wednesday following a confrontation with José Fernández Sánchez, the delegate for social policies, family, and childhood. Spokesperson Manuela Bergerot highlighted the educators' efforts to dignify labor and said the essential nature of their roles. The strike aims to secure better working conditions and visibility for the profession. The movement continues as educators seek recognition for their essential services. Workers are marching alongside the CGT organization to demand improved conditions for the zero-to-three age education stage. The workers aim to dignify the educational stage for children aged zero to three years. The CGT organization is supporting the strike action, and participants are reportedly wearing yellow t-shirts during demonstrations. The group noted that educators face minimum wages despite having economic responsibilities similar to others in Madrid. The educators, part of the Marea Amarilla group, cite low minimum wages and high workloads as primary grievances. They stated that the legal maximum of eight children per educator prevents individualized attention necessary for cognitive and psychosocial development.
