UK Police Chief Requests Funding For Anti-Semitism Protection
The London police chief is requesting additional resources to combat threats from the AYI group. A former Met Police officer discussed the request alongside debates regarding whether protest marches should be banned. The discussion included analysis from Times executive editor Jeremy Griffin. Discussions are also ongoing regarding the potential banning of protest marches. The comments follow an escalation of anti-Semitic attacks and abuse in the UK since October 7, 2023, including a recent attack in Golders Green. Metropolitan Police Commissioner Sir Mark Rowley stated that current laws do not permit the banning of pro-Palestinian marches. Rowley noted that the Home Secretary has asked Lord Ken McDonald to form a direction of public prosecutions to review hate crime and protest laws. He noted that the power to stop protests is not currently available under existing legislation.
