Greece Faces National Transport Strikes
Widespread rallies and demonstrations are causing transport disruptions throughout Greece. The metro, electric trams, and the entire national railway network, including suburban lines, are affected by worker mobilizations. Buses and trolleybuses are expected to operate until 9:00 PM. Port operations are also impacted by the ongoing activities. May Day rallies in Athens have led to the closure of Vasilissis Sofias, Panepistimiou, and Stadiou streets. Metro and suburban railway services are currently suspended, with bus and tram services expected to resume by 9:00 PM. Similar disruptions are reported in Thessaloniki and other major cities. Trains and metro services are also heavily affected by the industrial action. The strike is occurring during the first weekend of the summer season. The Embassy in Athens and the Consulate General in Thessaloniki are available for consular assistance.
