May Day Rallies Held Across France

Approximately 100,000 people are expected to participate in 320 planned May Day demonstrations across France on May 1. Labor unions including CFDT, CGT, FO, FOC, FEC, and CFTC are opposing a future bill. Some union representatives claim the Prime Minister's stance on legality is incorrect and reported that several inspectors have already stated they will not conduct inspections today. More than 300 gatherings are planned throughout the country today. The government has not issued clear instructions regarding the demonstrations. A procession in Paris is scheduled to begin at 14:00 local time. The government is considering expanding the ability for new sectors to work on the May 1st public holiday, a move the political left claims threatens social rights.
