China Calls For End To US Maritime Blockade
United Nations Secretary-General Antonio Guterres has called for the lifting of both Iranian and American blockades on a critical shipping route. Guterres stated that it will take months to recover from the impact of these blockades even if they are lifted immediately. The call follows heightened tensions regarding maritime security in the region. China's Qin Gang, acting as May chair of the UN Security Council, called on the United States to end its maritime blockade of Iran. He also urged Tehran to lift restrictions in the Strait of Hormuz. The escalation of the conflict has resulted in a functional blockade of the Strait of Hormuz, a critical route for global oil and liquefied natural gas supplies. This situation has impacted regional oil production and export levels.
