Trump Faces War Powers Resolution Deadline
Senate Republicans and one Democrat have blocked a resolution for the fifth time that would require President Donald Trump to seek congressional approval for his military actions in Iran. Democrats have forced a vote on this measure six times since the conflict began 60 days ago. The vote occurred in Washington. California Democratic Senator Adam Schiff noted that current law dictates the conflict must end at the 60-day mark unless Congress intervenes. The president must terminate the use of force until Congress provides authorization. Democrats argued that a war was initiated without evidence of an imminent threat to the United States or a coherent strategy. The final vote was 47 to 50, largely along party lines. Republicans Susan Collins of Maine and Rand Paul of Kentucky voted in favor of the resolution, while one Democrat voted against it.
