UN Commissioner Urges Halt To Iranian Executions
UN High Commissioner for Human Rights official Volker Türk reported that 21 people have been executed in Iran over a two-month period since the start of the US-Israel-Iran conflict. The official stated that 10 of these individuals were political prisoners, including 9 opposition members and 1 person accused of espionage. Mahmoud Amiri, director of a human rights organization, noted that these figures align with reports from the UN. The official expressed concern regarding the high number of political prisoners and the risk of death due to medical issues like embolism in prisons. Human rights organizations claim Iran has one of the highest execution rates globally. Volker Türk, the United Nations High Commissioner for Human Rights, called for an immediate halt to all executions in Iran. The statement follows the scheduled execution of Sasan Azadfar.
