SPD Proposes Increased Municipal Funding In Rhineland-Palatinate

SPD politician Alexander Schweizer stated that the upcoming coalition agreement will include a increase in municipal financial equalization starting in 2027. The CDU party committee and an SPD special party convention are scheduled to decide on the agreement this Saturday. This follows the state election held on March 22. The finance ministry intends to provide significantly more funds to municipalities as early as next year. Decisions regarding the coalition agreement are scheduled for Saturday via the CDU party committee and a special SPD party convention. The proposal follows the March 22 state election where the CDU emerged as the largest party with approximately 31 percent, followed by the SPD with nearly 26 percent. The state parliament in Rhineland-Palatinate amended the constitution during its final session. Previously, one-fifth of members were required to establish an inquiry committee. Under the new rules, one-quarter of members must now be present to form such a committee. Future decisions will require a quarter majority. The SPD, CDU, and Greens have been involved in discussions regarding the promotion of new power plants in southern German regions. It was noted that this could disadvantage the eastern part of the country.
