Greek Public Suspects Government Cover-Up

The Athens Bar Association issued a statement regarding Prosecutor Konstantinos Tzavelas's decision not to withdraw a wiretapping case from the archives. The union stated that such actions, when viewed as institutional collusion within the justice system, directly damage credibility and disrupt the balance of state functions. The association requested the resignation of Prosecutor Tzavelas following the decision. Health Minister Antonis Jairades stated on platform X that the European Public Prosecutor's Office's actions appear to be organized and targeted political interference. Jairades expressed serious doubts regarding whether supporting the institution was correct. The comments come amid a subsidy scandal in Greece that has already resulted in the resignation of several ministers. Surveys indicate a majority of Greek citizens believe the government is covering up information regarding subsidies. The opposition has called for new elections citing irregularities involving a wiretapping scandal and a major train accident from over three years ago. Prime Minister Mitsotakis has denied allegations of corruption in the country.
