Trump Suggests US Troop Withdrawal From Italy And Spain
Spanish Prime Minister Pedro Sánchez stated he would consider reducing the number of United States troops stationed in Spain. There are currently approximately 3,500 U.S. soldiers stationed in Spain, according to the report. The decision is being framed as a potential consequence for lack of assistance from Italy and Spain. President Trump told reporters at the White House that he is considering withdrawing US troops from Italy and Spain. He also criticized German Chancellor Merz regarding the handling of the Iranian nuclear threat and energy issues. Spain closed its airspace to US military aircraft involved in the conflict in late March. Both Madrid and Rome have maintained restrictive postures since the start of the Middle East conflict.
