Washington DC To Increase Parking Rates
Council member John Chapman expressed concern regarding the rising cost of living in Washington DC. The council also discussed an increase in fines for parking violations. City officials stated these steps are necessary due to a hard budget. The increase is contingent on certain factors according to Brennan. This change is expected to generate 2.4 million dollars in additional revenue. The real estate tax remains untouched as part of the current budget proposal. The increase could generate an additional $1.4 million in revenue based on 90,000 tickets. Potential uses for the new funds include Alexandria City Public Schools and housing initiatives. Leaders are currently debating how to allocate the projected revenue. Parking meter and Park Mobile receipts in Washington DC are expected to increase in cost starting July 1st. The change was reported by WTOP in Alexandria.
