Singapore Implements Child Protection Agency Reforms
Starting tomorrow, only selected agencies in the social sector will be permitted to manage child protection cases in Singapore. The Communicable Diseases Agency (CDA) identified 13 genetically similar cases across three clusters between 2023 and February 2026. Free screenings will be offered to members of the public in frequent areas. Starting Monday, the Heartbeat at Bedok Community Hub will conduct on-site blood tests for tuberculosis detection. Individuals testing positive will be contacted by the CDA for follow-up. Only approximately 80 selected agencies will be permitted to handle these cases moving forward. The measure aims to allow specialized judges to focus exclusively on cases where the best interests of the child are the priority. This reorganization is intended to increase efficiency by relieving civil sections of these specific types of proceedings.
