German Politicians Call For Deutschland-Ticket Expansion

hr-iNFO Berlin 13d12d Impact 3

Opposition politicians and industry representatives in Germany are calling for the expansion of the Deutschlandticket. Schneider stated in an interview with the ARD Hauptstadtstudio that he wants the ticket to remain a success and is willing to work with states and transport companies to advance it. However, state governments and transport companies have reportedly shown little response to his offers. Ingo Wortmann of the German Association of Transport Companies stated that while the 3 billion euro annual subsidy for the Deutschlandticket is secured until 2030, actual costs are not fully covered due to practical cost increases. Wortmann expressed concern that rising prices could lead to decreased public usage. Transport Minister Patrick Schneider stated that no additional funding will be provided despite the existing subsidy.

Green Party politician Tarek Al-Wazir also advocated for further investment in public transport infrastructure. Industry experts suggest the Deutschlandticket may increase in annual cost if the federal government does not increase investment. Jan Zimmermann reported from Berlin that the current success of the Deutschlandticket may be limited without improved local transit infrastructure. The future financial sustainability of the ticket remains a subject of debate. Various associations are calling for the expansion of local and regional transport in Germany following the three-year implementation of the Deutschlandticket. Many transport companies are reportedly in discussions regarding these potential expansions.
