Pomona College Students Protest Racial Accountability
Pomona College leadership announced the expansion of anti-bias training following concerns regarding racial accountability. The institution's leadership stated that racism has no place at the college. Current campus leadership includes a Black Dean of Students, a Black Athletic Director, and a Black Dean of Admissions and Financial Aid. The leaders cited inconsistencies in how disciplinary actions are applied to different marginalized groups. Gary Starr issued a campus message this month describing the accounts of racism as deeply troubling. The complaints follow allegations that the college does not adequately care for its Black community members. Black students at Pomona College in Claremont are demanding administrative action following a series of racist incidents on campus. The college has confirmed several incidents and is currently investigating additional reports.
