Chicago Allocates $900,000 For Violence Prevention
The youth group Good Kids Mad City is issuing $900,000 in grants to experienced violence prevention organizations. This follows the development of the Peace Book, a concept created by local youth to address gang affiliations. This order establishes Chicago's first permanent, year-round youth peacekeeping program. The initiative includes the creation of new specific positions within the city. An individual is currently in custody and a weapon was recovered following a separate incident involving two officers earlier this morning. The program will employ 100 part-time youth peacekeepers and four full-time youth safety advisors. Youth peacekeepers, aged 16 to 24, will train peers in conflict resolution and de-escalation, and organize mutual aid networks. Safety advisors will supervise and mentor participants. The program has failed to gain sufficient support within the Chicago City Council.
