Camp Mystic Directors Testify In Texas Investigation

Edward Eastland, a director of Camp Mystic, offered a tearful apology during a special legislative hearing in Austin, Texas, on Tuesday. The apology follows flash flooding last year that killed 25 campers and two counselors at the all-girls Christian camp. Dozens of victims' family members were present during the hearing. Eastland stated he thinks about the night of the flood every moment of every day. The hearing is the second day of a special legislative session regarding the incident. The camp's director faced questions from state lawmakers regarding a lack of emergency planning. Efforts are currently underway to reopen the camp in May. Directors of Camp Mystic testified before Texas state lawmakers regarding the deaths of 27 people during a July 4th flood last year. Independent investigators stated that leadership failures, including ignoring weather warnings and lacking an evacuation plan, led to the deaths of 25 campers and two counselors. Camp Director Edward East was identified as part of the leadership involved in the investigation.
