Alfonso Talley Faces Detention Hearing For Police Shooting
Jose Medina, a Venezuelan national who entered the U.S. illegally in 2023, is expected to enter a plea today regarding a shooting in Rogers Park. Prosecutors allege Medina hid behind a lighthouse before firing a single shot at Sheridan Gorman and her friends. Medina's defense attorney stated the defendant has severe brain damage resulting from a 2018 gunshot wound. Alfonso Talley, accused of shooting two Chicago police officers and killing one, appeared for a brief detention hearing. Reporters in the courtroom noted Talley was unruly, speaking loudly to his attorney and giggling during the state's presentation of probable cause. The judge repeatedly admonished Talley for his behavior. He is scheduled to return to court on May 20th.
