Illegal Waste Disposal Remains Problem In Poznan Forests
Emergency services received a 112 call reporting a hazardous waste landfill located in a forest near Poznan. The site contained flammable solvents. Authorities stated that no solvent leakage occurred and there was no immediate fire threat or environmental contamination reported. State forestry officials report that illegal waste disposal in forests remains a issue. Tomasz Maciekowiak from the Poznan Forestry Directorate stated that the amount of waste collected annually would fill 65,000 household bins. Recently, 600 liters of solvent were discovered in abandoned containers near Poznan. Maciekowiak warned that such leaks could lead to soil and groundwater contamination or fires.
