An inspector reported that equine welfare issues remain a problem in Ireland. Two equines were euthanized in Dublin yesterday due to poor physical condition. The inspector noted that animals are too easily available and inexpensive, leading to them falling into the wrong hands.

“We have serious equine welfare issues still, not as bad as we might have seen maybe 14 years ago statistically, but just yesterday, my colleagues in Dublin were having two unfortunate animals, equines euthanised, because they were in such bad condition.”

RTÉ Radio 1

“25% of our calls would be in relation to equines, so they're still a big customer. And also in terms of the numbers of animals that we're taking in, they'd be around about 50%.”
