Student Stops School Bus During Driver's Medical Emergency
A student successfully intervened to prevent a school bus accident in Mississippi. The student alerted emergency services by calling 911, which allowed authorities to stop the vehicle and secure the driver. Two 12-year-old students at Hancock Middle School prevented a major accident after their school bus driver suffered a medical emergency on a four-lane highway. One sixth-grader steered the vehicle while another student applied the brakes to stop the bus carrying approximately 40 students. The driver reportedly passed out due to an asthma attack on Wednesday. Emergency services were notified by the students during the incident. A 12-year-old sixth grader noticed the bus swerving, took the steering wheel, and directed classmates to call 911. Another 12-year-old student managed to hit the brakes, and together they brought the vehicle to a safe stop.
