Indonesia Investigates Tanker Collision In Bekasi

The government of Bekasi has launched rescuers in Indonesia with assistance from the President. Indonesia's National Transportation Safety Committee is currently investigating the cause of the collision. The incident follows a tanker collision that resulted in ten deaths. Reporter Chandi Vatvani reported from the scene in Bekasi. A passenger train collided with a stationary bath train at a station in Bekasi, West Java. The accident resulted in 14 deaths and 84 injuries. Search and rescue operations are underway at the wreckage, though efforts are being complicated by narrow spaces and damage to the train wagons. Indonesian authorities stated the accident began when a taxi hit a level crossing, causing a train to stop on the tracks before being struck by a long-distance train. One survivor was taken to a nearby hospital. The government plans to conduct a comprehensive evaluation of level crossing conditions, particularly in densely populated areas like Bekasi.
