Tuapse Denies Tap Water Safety Warnings
Some residents in Tuapse are without water following a power failure at a water pumping station. Hospital treatments are becoming more difficult due to shortages of medicine and materials. Krasnodar Krai Governor Veniamin Kondratyev arrived at the scene and deployed additional forces from neighboring districts, including road workers and builders. Divers were deployed to the Black Sea coast to assist. Authorities warned that the released benzol is a carcinogen that can cause environmental issues in high concentrations. Reports indicate dead dolphins and fish have been found on the coast of Tuapse, a popular Black Sea beach resort. Residents are also experiencing problems with the city's drinking water. The environmental impact is affecting local sea creatures. Tuapse Mayor Sergey Boyko called reports that tap water in the Tuapse district is unsafe for consumption incorrect.
