Educational Opportunities In Germany Linked To Social Origin

BR24 Berlin 15d14d Impact 3
A study presented in Berlin by the IFO Institute indicates that social origin and gender significantly influence educational and career paths in Germany. The findings suggest that equal effort does not guarantee equal career opportunities across different backgrounds. The study was released as part of the Chancenmonitor report. Only 17% of students whose parents lack a high school diploma and belong to the lowest income quartile achieve certain educational milestones. The monitor, which has tracked data since 2023, also found that 7% fewer boys than girls attend Gymnasium, a trend largely independent of family background. Additionally, the study noted that young people frequently use AI chatbots for discussions regarding mental health issues. The Chance Monitor, which has been active since 2023, also identified gender differences for the first time.
