Germany Observes Workers Memorial Day
Workers Memorial Day was observed across Germany to honor employees lost to workplace accidents or occupational stress. The IG Bau union called for moments of silence in various locations, including Schleswig-Holstein, Lübeck, and Lauenburg. The observance included minutes of silence at workplaces such as construction sites, assembly lines, and offices. The Unfallkasse Nord reported that accident numbers have remained largely unchanged in recent years. One in four workplace accidents involves slipping, tripping, or falling. Accidents involving machinery or falls from heights have decreased significantly. The IG BAU union is calling on all companies to discuss workplace risks and conduct hazard checks.
