Russian Railways Modernized During Pre-War Period
During the lead-up to World War II, Russian railways underwent modernization efforts, particularly on the Lviv and Brest directions, with the addition of second tracks. Upon entering Polish territory in 1939 and Bessarabia in 1940, some tracks were not converted to the wider gauge, remaining on the narrow gauge.
