Vietnam Police Process 124 Railway Safety Violations
Traffic police and authorities in Hanoi report that over 3,000 unofficial railway crossings exist on national routes originating from the city. Government and local authorities are focusing on eliminating unofficial crossings because they account for 50% of all accidents. The railway industry is implementing new technology to assist train drivers and provide early warnings to citizens. The new decree replaces existing regulations and introduces significantly higher fines for dangerous behaviors at railway crossings and bridges. Vietnam will implement stricter penalties for railway safety violations starting May 15, 2026, under Decree 81. Drivers crossing moving barriers or red lights will face fines between 18 million and 20 million VND and potential license suspension for 1 to 3 months.
