Politician Calls For Public Safety Bollards In Leipzig
Leipzig authorities have installed temporary bollards at the entrance to Krimmerische Straße following a fatal amok driving incident. The city stated these measures are time-limited until further plans to secure the city center are completed. The installation aims to maintain access for emergency services and suppliers while enhancing pedestrian safety. BSV state parliament member Erik Recke questioned the lack of security bollards in Leipzig's city center following an amok incident. Recke was present at the Nikolaikirche during a prayer meeting and later at the crime scene. He called for an honest debate regarding security concepts in public spaces to prevent similar attacks. The politician noted that the absence of physical barriers allowed the perpetrator to drive into the city center.
