Zurich Eco-District Metro and Tunnel Planned For 2034
A new M3 metro line is being planned to connect the railway station to the La Thuér stadium. The project aims to replace the current bus system, which has reached maximum capacity. The M3 line is expected to provide significantly more efficient transport for the region compared to existing services. Currently, the area relies on the M1 line toward Rønner and the M2 line toward the northern highway feeder. Construction of the M3 is intended to address the growing transit needs of the stadium area. The project includes the construction of the Gatje-Pleun-Dylu area, described as a 'city within a city' for over 10,000 residents. This new eco-district will feature very limited parking spaces to reduce traffic congestion. The Canton Parliament of Zurich intends to invest over 800 million Swiss francs to expand and renew the city's metro network.
