Suspect Wounded In Shooting Near Washington Monument
The Secret Service reported that an individual was shot by law enforcement near the Washington Monument. A convoy for Vice President Vance had passed through the area shortly before the incident, though officials stated there is no evidence the convoy was the intended target. The incident follows a shooting in Leipzig that resulted in two deaths and 22 injuries. A statement on social media indicated gunshots were heard south of the Washington Monument. Emergency responders are currently on the scene, and officials have advised the public to avoid the area. A spokesperson for the U.S. In a subsequent statement, the DHS added that an armed man had a confrontation with security forces, leading to the incident. Local authorities are responding to the scene. Secret Service Deputy Director Matthew Quinn stated a man fled from agents and was taken to a hospital along with a juvenile bystander.
