Berlin Data Protection Commissioner Warns BVG Over Data Breach
Berlin's data protection commissioner, Kamp, has issued a warning to the BVG public transport operator. The warning follows a hacker attack from one year ago that resulted in the theft of approximately 180,000 customer data records from an external BVG service provider. The incident involved a breach at a third-party vendor used by the transport authority. Berlin's Data Protection Commissioner, Maike Kamp, warned the BVG transport company during a hearing in the House of Representatives' data protection committee. Kamp stated that the BVG violated current laws twice in connection with a data incident that occurred one year ago. The BVG reportedly provided customer data to an external service provider to facilitate operations in January. The incident involved the sharing of addresses, contract numbers, and some email addresses.
