China Expands Film, Tourism, Commerce Integration

Taiwan's cultural and tourism departments are guiding cinemas to use lobby spaces for product exhibitions, aiming to boost both film box office sales and product sales. Cultural tourism markets continue to heat up as cities blend ancient historical districts with new lifestyles. Tourists can experience cultural charms in studios and enjoy creative drinks at new tea shops. During the May Day holiday, various traditional Chinese-themed activities were held, including Hanfu parades that attracted many onlookers. Many Hanfu enthusiasts also joined, dressing in traditional attire amidst ancient Chinese architecture. Dongluo Village, formerly known as 'Pot Bottom Cave,' began its transformation in June 2017 with Jiangsu Province's characteristic rural construction initiative. A cooperation model involving local government, social capital, and village collectives was established in August 2017 to develop the 'Shuishui Dongluo' tourism IP. Former impoverished school buildings have been converted into guesthouses, and an old temple is now a village hall for performances. Domestic tourists are increasingly adapting to medium to long-distance travel, including high-speed rail to Hong Kong. Retail and dining sectors are offering more discounts to attract visitors. However, areas near the border like Sheung Shui and Fanling are not benefiting as much, with many Hong Kong residents traveling north for cheaper options. Hotel occupancy and room rates have seen a decline, particularly during periods of heavy rain.
