Taiwan Law Requires Parental Consent For Step-Parent Adoption

Taiwan has revised the Labor Occupational Disaster Insurance and Protection Act, with five key points of reform. Failure to do so can result in employers being held liable for compensation costs. Claims for benefits are not time-barred by the progression of illness, such as cancer. The program also clarified that any bone fracture, regardless of severity or location, is covered under workers' compensation. Injury compensation can cover partial burden reduction, but issues like head injuries may still arise. The discussion noted that even if a condition is not classified as a direct occupational disease, workers may still be eligible for claims under labor insurance. It was noted that accidents occurring during lunch breaks, such as commuting to or from meals, can fall under the scope of occupational accidents. The segment also addressed concerns regarding the statute of limitations for long-term illnesses like cancer. A revised lawsuit concerning artificial insemination law has not yet passed the Executive Yuan version in Taiwan. Taiwan is considering a future legislative trend to enact a special law for surrogacy, separate from the artificial insemination law, due to its complexity. This new legislation would be distinct from the existing artificial reproduction law due to the complex nature of surrogacy. Taiwan's adoption law stipulates that a second partner seeking to adopt a child from a previous marriage requires the consent of the original parents.
