Blind Runners Participate In Wuxi Marathon

Tens of thousands of participants joined the 2026 Wuxi Marathon, including a group of visually impaired runners and their sighted guides. The role of a 'guide runner' involves sacrificing personal best times to focus on the success of the visually impaired runner, a commitment described as deeply meaningful. During the 2026 Wuxi Marathon, visually impaired participants ran alongside guides who sacrificed their personal best times to ensure the runners completed the race. Approximately 58-year-old Peng Meijing is a founder of the Wuxi station for the 'Dark Running Group,' established in 2023. Volunteer runners chose to forgo personal bests to support the visually impaired athletes. This event highlights themes of confidence, companionship, and illumination, with participants finding deep meaning in the shared experience of completing the 42.195-kilometer race.
