Guatemalan Police Arrest Individual For Facebook Vehicle Sale

National Civil Police captured a 35-year-old woman in the La Verbena colony of Zone 7, Guatemala City, on charges of extortion. In Amatitlán, authorities arrested a 29-year-old man in Laguna Seca for illegal possession of a firearm, two bags, and 24 rounds of ammunition. Guatemalan National Civil Police conducted operations resulting in the seizure of 1,600 motorcycles and 221 vehicles operating without license plates. Authorities arrested one member of the Mara Salvatrucha gang linked to an attack in Guatemala City's Zone 6. Another individual was detained in the Escuintla Department on extortion charges. Investigations into the suspects remain ongoing. One man was detained for appropriation of property, and another for customs smuggling, resistance, and assault. Between January 2024 and March 2026, authorities detected 337 cases involving 86.7 million in customs value of seized goods for improper intellectual property use. Seized items included sports shoes, perfumes, watches, electronics, and cosmetics. Police spokesperson and Inspector Subcommissioner Jorge Hilar confirmed the capture. The incident involves the illegal sale of a vehicle through social media platforms.
