Hong Kong Enforces Alternative Smoking Product Laws
Starting Thursday, individuals found with small quantities of alternative smoking products in public places in Hong Kong will face a 3,000 Hong Kong dollar fine, approximately 380 US dollars. Hong Kong Department of Health officials conducted 137 inspections in Admiralty yesterday morning to enforce new smoking regulations. Officials issued four fixed penalty notices for new ban violations and 12 notices for e-cigarette use. The Hong Kong Department of Health conducted 137 inspections of smoking and drinking control offices as of 5:00 PM yesterday. Officials stated they will increase patrols in crowded areas over the next two weeks. Under the new proposals, the maximum fine for selling illegal fuel would increase from $200,000 to $3 million. The proposals aim to clarify the criminal liability of buyers and allow officers to stop, search, and seize vehicles.
