Shelter Owner Allegedly Defrauded Donbas Animal Rescue Funds
More than 200 animal corpses were discovered at the Forgotten Heart shelter in the Rostov region. Volunteers reported animal abuse and found approximately 50 dead dogs near Komyshlov in late March 2026, which they suspect were discarded by shelter staff. Law enforcement officials arrived at the facility following the discovery of the deceased animals. Unused medications were also found at the site. The owner of the shelter was identified as Katiana Makarova. According to the report, medications were found lying unused alongside the animals. The source noted that some animal rights activists use social media posts about injured dogs and puppies to solicit donations under false pretenses. In Samara, a foundation called 'Good Hearted' allegedly collected approximately 500,000 rubles for a dog named Boris that had a severed spinal cord.
