Hantavirus Confirmed Transmissible Between Humans; Argentina Sends Tests
Officials reported a possible Hantavirus exposure occurred on an airplane involving New Jersey residents. Authorities stated the residents are not currently showing any signs of the virus, and their identities and locations are not being disclosed due to privacy concerns. Infectious disease expert Dr. William Scheffner indicated the risk of spread to the general public is low, as Hantavirus is not as readily transmissible as COVID or influenza. Officials clarified that these individuals were not on board a ship related to an earlier outbreak. Thailand's Department of Health is tracking the Hantavirus situation and has not yet detected it within Thailand.
