Ebola Declared Public Health Emergency
The Democratic Republic of Congo's health minister has warned of an outbreak of an infectious disease. The health minister in the Democratic Republic of Congo has stated there is no vaccine or treatment available for a particular strain of virus. Frontline healthcare workers in the DRC are considered highly capable of managing Ebola virus disease. The head of the World Health Organization, Tedros Adhanom Ghebreyesus, stated that local health authorities are supporting efforts to combat a potential disease outbreak in the Democratic Republic of Congo. So far, more than 80 lives have been lost to the virus. This is the highest level of global alert issued by the WHO. This declaration signifies a serious international health risk. Officials reported suspected cases and deaths from the virus across several zones.
