Improved Testing Could Prevent 10,000 UK Baby Losses Annually
A trial conducted by the Thomas National Centre for Miscarriage Research and Birmingham Women's Hospital has completed its initial phase. Implementing the report's findings would cost £15 million. The program aims to save 10,000 babies within one year. The trial focused on ensuring live births were recorded to validate the study's essential findings. Baroness Merron, parliamentary undersecretary of state for the Department of Health and Social Care, stated the government will carefully consider miscarriage support within the refreshed women's health strategy. The current strategy has been refreshed but miscarriage support was previously only noted for future review. Current care models in Scotland and Northern Ireland include graded care and paid bereavement leave. In Wales and England, women are reportedly sent home with paracetamol after miscarriages.
